Part-Time Technical Writer Postion at University of Minnesota

The Institute for Engineering in Medicine (IEM) seeks a Technical Writer to immediately edit several scientific papers and grant proposals. Future work will include more papers, more proposals, and some IEM strategic communications.  

 

Specific duties: Edit scientific papers and grant proposals and manage multiple editing cycles with authors. For both, this means ensuring that manuscripts 1) meet the standards of the target journal or funding opportunity announcement and 2) have well-organized arguments that are clearly conveyed in robust, error-free prose. 

 

Hours: 10-20 hours/week for the duration of the academic year and the summer of 2022. Likely extra hours over the summer. Work will be nearly 100% remote with occasional in-person meetings on campus. 

 

Rate of Pay: $20/hour

 

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and documented history of excellent scientific/technical prose. Please be prepared to submit three writing samples upon application.

The Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) is looking for a Broadband Writer/Editor to join a small team within ILSR focused on ensuring all Americans have fast, affordable, and reliable Internet access.

Job responsibilities include: 
  • Writing stories for MuniNetworks.org, a clearinghouse of the latest news, comprehensive reports, and statistics about community broadband networks. 
  • Writing and collaborating with the team on larger reports. 
  • Managing research ongoing on the cities and cooperative that are building networks. 
  • Monitoring an overwhelming number of Google alerts and other streams of information to keep track of local developments around community networks. 
  • Working with the team to develop and review research projects and creative efforts to share our work. 

A successful candidate is: 
  • An exceptionally good writer with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling way. 
  • Able to write quickly when needed. Attentive to accuracy, detail, and nuance. 
  • Strongly motivated. 
  • A strong analytic thinker who can identify the pivotal questions and gaps in a piece. 
  • Possesses a genuine enjoyment of collaboration with a willingness to give and receive honest feedback. Skilled at helping team members improve the articles they contribute. 
  • Passionate about the ILSR’s mission of countering corporate monopolies and building community power. 
  • Enthusiastic about puns, alliteration, or some other means of playing with words. 

Preferred qualifications: More than 1 year of experience in journalism or writing and editing – ideally on broadband policy, tech, or related fields. Strong knowledge of public policy processes or a tech/telecom background. A bachelor’s degree.

Paid, Part-time Social Media Position


Marketing and Social Media Assistant
Minnesota Oral Health Project (MNOHP)
 

Description:  The Marketing and Social Media Assistant will work closely with the MNOHP Leadership Team and the Executive Director to improve our social media presence and to promote MNOHP educational resources to the public.

Reports to MNOHP Executive Director

Hours:  Part time position, between 10 and 20 hours per month

Pay:  Stipend will be offered

Required Qualifications:  Proficient in Facebook posts, boosts and ads; You Tube and video graphing; Instagram; Twitter; and Website promotion.

Additional Qualifications:  Independent worker, medical or oral care background preferred

Job duties
  • Work with Executive Director, Medical Director, Dental Director, and Technology and Communications Director to learn about MNOHP, Crush Cavities, and oral care for high risk children.
  • Develop and implement plan for increasing Facebook likes to 1,000 followers, including but not limited to posts, contests, surveys, advertisements, videos, and more.
  • Evaluate current You Tube account and make recommendations.
  • Assess and advise MNOHP regarding Instagram, Twitter, and other social media venues.
  • Develop and implement plan for marketing MNOHP educational resources to various audiences, including Primary Care Medical Providers, Dental Providers, Caregivers, Educators, and Children.
